Understanding that parents are our children’s first teachers, we model the Montessori philosophy as a way of life to our children. We honor the ideals of Maria Montessori and support our teachers as they continue to provide high quality Montessori education in the public school setting. Parental involvement is at the core of our success.
All Children Learning Well
Montessori is a philosophy and style of teaching that was first developed by Maria Montessori in 1914. The curriculum includes a wide range of subjects brought together in a carefully prepared environment under the direction of teachers trained in the Montessori Method.
The Montessori program provides learning experiences for children of all capabilities in a multi-age environment.
Multi-age grouping provides students with opportunities to learn according to their abilities. It enables students to work at their own level in subject areas as appropriate. A District Advisory Committee Report (1994) on teaching highly capable and gifted students recognized the Montessori program as being well-matched in meeting the needs of these students.
Skills are taught using real concrete examples or models. This “hands-on” approach allows children to “discover” answers to problems on their own.
Learning in the curriculum spirals upward, building upon and connecting to what has already been learned. Each year more detail is added and higher thinking skills are developed.
