CKSD Montessori Teachers Guiding
Principles 1/04
We strive to uphold Montessori ideals through
community with parents in support of teachers as
guides to children’s learning.
Our philosophy of education follows the child. It in-
volves four equally important components over a three-
year period with the same teacher/guide:
A prepared learning environment
Developmental theory
Social context
Teaching methodology utilizing small group and
inspirational instruction
These concepts are incorporated into all four
areas:
Order
Work
Repetition
Persistence
Imagination
Concentration
Independence
Decision making
Classroom community
Teach one another
Cosmic tasks
Whole child
Big picture
Grace and Courtesy
Parents are utilized in the assistant role to:
Help maintain the learning environment.
Overview during small group instruction.
Allow healthy, helpful peer interaction.
Help with assessment busywork.
Guide project completion.
Give encouragement or help with tasks.
The teacher roles are:
Carefully select and arrange the learning

environment.
Plan inspirational lessons according to flow-
charts with scope and sequence aligned with
the Washington State Essential Learning Re-
quirements.

Parent Volunteer Hours
Barb Chan is our Hour Coordinator and she
put together the following graph to show us
the total number of hours submitted by our
parents (those of you who haven’t submitted
your hours know who you are!  Please turn
your hours in, it’s really easy to do.)
The Tracyton Montessori Program builds personal
accountability and a strong work ethic by allowing
students to work at their own pace; yet challenges them
to accelerate beyond what is taught in a conventional
classroom.
Mrs. Beckstrom and Ms. Piper are both caring and
dedicated stewards of the program and provide
excellent one on one interaction with the students.  We
are grateful to them both.
